After Chairman Barry Hunter addressed the congregated masses to acknowledge the sterling work of the course of the season by the whole Management Committee, he rightly paid particular praise to Mark Courtney who has put so much work into the preparation of our matchday pitch throughout the season. Ensuring that it has always been to a standard come kick-off unmatched by any other grass pitch in the SCFL and as a result has received recognition this season through its selection to host both an SCFL Cup Competition semi final and final.
After this came a special award from one of The Magpies' most ardent supporters, Taylor Lacey. Having barely missed a game either home or away it was only fitting that he got to present his own Player of the Season award and he chose Club Captain, Eddie French. |
And then on to much anticipated Players' Player of the Season, where all wait with baited to breath to see just what their peers made of their performance throughout the season.
As it happened, despite a spirited showing from the Club Captain and Vice Captain (French and Byron Napper) who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the final reckoning, it was a landslide victory for Joel Colbran who takes the accolade at just 18 years of age but he had consistently put in performances that belay those years. |
This part of the night came to a close with the final award of the evening, Manager's Player of the Season.
This award does take into account more than just on-field performances, it recognises a more all-round contribution to the Club. As it happens this season that meant that Joel Colbran doubled up his award tally for the night and received his trophy from Manager Dave Cocoracchio. This caps a year for Joel where he has also captained the Sussex County U18 representative side this season, and has become one of only a select few to make 15 or more appearances for that side. With the accolades all distributed the Senior Players boarded their complimentary buses and headed off to the VIP Lounge at Shooshh in Brighton where the celebrations continued before a well-earned rest ahead of what promises to be an exciting 2017/18 |
